The British Guiana 1¢ stamp is one of a kind.
The British Guiana 1¢ stamp is a black on magenta stamp, discovered in an unlikely but now, quite common, method of school children finding them. In 1873, a Scottish boy, Louis Vernon Vaughan, in the Colony of Demerara, picked up a stamp, being one of a kind, made in George Town, and now, instead of costing 12 shillings (£227.35), being what a local collector spent once he knew that the stamp wasn’t in a catalogue.
However, today, prices can reach up-to $9,480,000 (in 2014, being £7,558,157 in today’s money), being paid by an anonymous bider, with a lot of money.
